Whee! I finally get to talk to you about Hot Fuzz!

Something that Edgar said comparing the stories of SotD and HF was that SotD started out silly and became serious, while HF started out serious and became silly. I think they're all well aware that a cult of homicidal hoodies isn't plausible at all, which makes the big giant shootout all the more hysterical. It becomes like a video game really. Edgar's use of whiz-bang-flash cuts and edits do seem overused at times, but in the frame and the nature of the movie and its content, to me it actually makes...sense. It's all about the excess of action movies. Even when Nicholas does paperwork! (And I personally think it was UNDERused in SotD, because for the first quarter or so, the use of it was great, like spreading jam on the toast and flushing the toilet, and then...it kind of didn't show up again.)

Nicholas doesn't smile at all for like the first 45 minutes of the movie, which makes his reaction to Danny's innocent humor so heartwarming and sweet. That scene in the bar is one of my favorites. That, and the entire sequence on the couch.

So you do see that the slash truly writes itself. Mwa ha.

I've seen it four times and yeah, I actually did discover a few more jokes (and plot details) buried in the accents. Heh.
