Yeah, I read all the tidbits on IMDb and it amazes me how clever the guys are. They can reference their own material and it doesn't come off feeling all "wink-wink see how hip and smug we are." It's funny whether or not you're aware it's coming from somewhere else. And it's such good material anyway, so more power to 'em.
I don't know if you're aware of this, but there was originally a female love interest for Nicholas Angel in the first draft, but she was eventually written out, because Edgar and Simon realized that the one true romance was between Nicholas and Danny. They even gave Danny her pivotal lines. Now ain't that AWESOME. They're slashing themselves!!
