This probably won't be terribly long, but I'm cutting out of consideration for people who missed it but might want to see it someday. And for those who don't really care to begin with.

I realized today that having kneejerk defensive reactions to people who compare The L Word unfavorably to Queer as Folk is just as unfair as making the comparison originally. Just because it's about lesbians does not make it by default a great show. But sadly, as I've said before, this society is still lightyears away from the day when we have a choice between good and bad lesbian programming and can therefore have a discriminating palate. Until that day, this is as good as it gets folks. Which I am beginning to fear maybe ain't that good.

I'm not saying the lesbian culture is all about the sex (like the gay male's) but it would be nice to see a little once in awhile. And NOT of the hetero variety, like Jenny and Tim in the season premiere. Blech (and that "blech" was not born of heterophobia. I just happen to intensely dislike those two).

Tery and I are trying to remember last week's episode and having too hard a time. It's coming to me...it was the one where Bette was all beating herself up for cheating on Tina. No, wait....that's EVERY week. Enough already. It was just. sex. I'm getting a wee bit really tired of Bette's pity parties and her newfound ability to destroy conversation just by entering the room. I did enjoy her manhandling the guy she T-boned with her car, although it would have been a tiny bit more satisfying if she hadn't been the guilty party.

I'm also tired of Carmen being so possessive of Shane, when she clearly spelled it out for her right from the start she wasn't into that. Tery insists that Shane needs the right girl to change her; I maintain that Carmen is not her (although [livejournal.com profile] zoisite84 nailed it on the head...she is remarkably Kennedy-of-Buffy-Season-7-like). And Carmen kissing Jenny? I'm sorry, girlfriend, if you're upset over your woman's commitment issues, Jenny sure as hell is not the solution to your problems.

And Jenny in Sandra's writing class. Oh man. If a piece about being chased by boys at a carnival and leaping through a dresser mirror into your own bed demonstrates an improvement in your skills, what on god's green earth were you writing about before? The teacher asked for a work of fiction, not a bad hallucinogenic dream sequence. Why oh why couldn't they have killed off Jenny and kept Marina? Anyhoo.

Tery and I agree the best story so far is the Dana/Alice triangle. They are so adorable together, and you can cut the sexual tension with a knife. Although I am also quite partial to the Kit/Ivan thing (but really surprised that Ivan didn't make a low-profile appearance at her club opening, just to keep tabs on her). Kelly Lynch is about the hottest drag king I've ever seen.

In summary: So far, ehh. We're only 3 eps into it, but the show still seems to be floundering in too many directions. Not that I'll ever give up on it, as I am contractually obligated to support the sistahs. At the very least I'm curious to see what they'll do when they run out of snappy "L" episode titles.

Okay, so did you notice, that behind Bette's head in her office at the gallery there is a big painting that says, "SO VERY SORRY" and nothing else?

Like, right, I get it. Boy, is she ever sorry!

LOL No, I didn't notice that. Probably because Tery and I are too busy riffing on the characters when we watch, and very seldom interested in watching a second time.
