Haha. It was such a blow to the trailer industry when Don "In a world" LaFontaine died, but I think they've done a decent job without him. Probably by avoiding voiceovers completely and sticking to text.
Well, if by "sci-fi" you mean "futuristic," I don't think it's such a stretch to believe that vampires who are immortal will still be around. I might have a harder time buying Ethan Hawke as a menacing character.
Perhaps I'm giving the movie more credit than it deserves, but it seems to start as a commentary on the Earth's dwindling resources (represented by the human blood supply), before it deteriorates into lots of explosions.
Edit: I Googled Don LaFontaine because I never trust my memory any more after some serious gaffes in the past. In Google's sidebar where they always assume you're shopping they provided an eBay link "Bid on Don Lafontaine now! Find great deals & huge selection." I didn't even know you could buy him!
