For my moviegoing public -- Terminal
Dec. 4th, 2004 01:51 amAt first one might think the only thing worse than being stuck in an airport terminal for 9 months would be watching a movie about being stuck in an airport terminal for 9 months. Not the case at all once Steven Spielberg waves his wand of Hollywood magic. I'm going to discuss fairly significant plot details, so if you don't like spoilers, you've been warned.
( Terminal )
Maybe Tery is making me cynical. I imagine there was a time when a film like this would have me bawling at all the right places. But thanks to all these huge, laughable problems, not even so much as a sniffle. I mean, this is more of a fairytale than ET, because at least that didn't pretend to be anything else. And not that I would have watched them anyway, but no extras whatsoever on the DVD. Not even lame "Sneak Peeks" masquerading as extras. Seems highly unusual these days, unless Stevie's planning a bait and switch and releasing a second edition later. Sorry, this only works when the movie is worthwhile to begin with. It did have some good laughs, though, and somehow was based on a true story. And I don't blame Tom for any of it (for still more Tom excellence, I would highly recommend The Ladykillers). 3 out of 5
Coming soon: Hero
