Some people are REAL asshats
Mar. 11th, 2008 02:19 pmOy vey, what a day. It's not often I update twice in a day, but my company's server is down so I can't work anyway. This morning it took nearly an hour to log in, so not cool. But that's not the half of it.
There's a transcriptionist board I sometimes go to, MTs helping MTs. Anyone can post questions and comments, from "sounds like" problems to lab result issues to venting because you have a particularly difficult doctor. It's a dead useful resource and has saved me from sending many a blank in a report.
Today a troll found our little board. Started out yelling (all caps) obscenities mostly dealing with oral sex. Then switched to pretending to be a jilted gay lover searching for "William" (again, all in caps). Which would have been simple enough to ignore, but then they got smart(er) and instead started posing as a valid MT, answering posts with reasonable-sounding (but incorrect) answers . But god help you if you had a question related to STDs or any vaguely embarrassing body part.
This REALLY angered me, and as much as I know they're looking for interaction, I couldn't resist pointing out the damage they might be causing someone's medical record. My bad, I forgot these wastes of skin don't give a shit who might get hurt just so they can have a laugh.
Still worse, it seemed some of the MTs had no experience in AOL chatrooms (where we used to get these losers regularly), and didn't grasp that they WANTED a reaction. Things would quiet down, with only the troll talking to himself, then someone would come along and engage him, reprimand him, "I'm sick of your nonsense" or "I hope you get what's coming to you." NO. Just ignore him and he'll get bored and go away.
Unfortunately posting on the board is open to anyone anonymously, so there really is no way to stop them (that I know of).
I just don't understand why someone would go to such an effort to piss off so many people. And also have not the slightest concern about possibly hurting someone's medical care. If you're THAT bored, shouldn't you be looking for a(nother) job or something? Maybe packing to move out of mommy and daddy's basement? After awhile it gave me such a headache, I can't even tell you.
