My ability to relate to people, which has always been tenuous at best, is deserting me. Of course I blame the fact that my immediate social circle consists of exactly two people. I go long stretches of hours not speaking a word to anyone (unless you count my animals, who willingly forgive my faux pas with just a kiss and a pat on the head). I'm not bothered by it, but in the past three weeks I've managed to piss off two friends who I thought knew me pretty well, simply by being misunderstood in my written communication. Am I required to punctuate all correspondence with a "lol," a sly wink or a "p.s. I'm kidding" from now on? Human interaction is exhausting.
I feel marginally better after having masturbated.

I sent Tery in with three movies for Chris to watch: Serenity, V for Vendetta and Red Eye. He kept them all, despite his claims that he's already seen the first two (but wanted to watch them again). Then we spoke at a party this past weekend and he beamingly told me that he went out and bought Serenity for himself. Which is great, but as of this writing he still has not returned my copy, which I consider unutterably inconsiderate. So what did I do, like an idiot? Sent Tery in with my Firefly set to loan him. Because I'm stupid that way.
When I borrow things from people, I finish with them quickly and return them as soon as possible. I know I'm not insane because Ryan does the same thing. Then there are others that borrow things and keep them for weeks, months, years (a friend once borrowed a book from me for so long that I forgot I even owned it). I don't understand.
Peg was at the same party. We commiserated together on the terrible awfulness that is All the Pretty Horses, and agreed to make that the lowest bar by which all other movies should be measured. Then Liana, Chris's paramour, pointed out for the third time that I liked Blair Witch Project (she did not). I exasperatedly told her I wished she would stop categorizing my tastes based on that movie, which is only one in a collection of 200 that I own. Liana also expressed disbelief that My Dog Skip was truly one of Chris's favorites of all time.
Then Chris had this to say about the movies he selects for me: "Sometimes I'm just messing with you." I suspect this is a defense mechanism so I don't think that he REALLY likes the crappy movies he gives me. But I pointed out that I, unlike him, am not retired (he just quit to be a "stay-at-home husband" last week, despite being neither married nor having any kids) and as such do not have limitless expanses of free time to watch movies given to me as a practical joke.
swankyfunk today reminded me of my love for Dylan Moran. Thank god Ryan just returned my Monster DVD (after only a week). I think that will make me feel loads better right now.

tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-07 03:14 am (UTC)I know exactly how you feel. I mean, I haven't masturbated today, but I sometimes spend minutes debating whether or not an emoticon or acronym is necessary. In real life, as well.
Can I borrow your Serenity DVD? Wink-and-smile.
Re: tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-07 03:55 pm (UTC)I've resolved to just not leave notes anymore (to take care of the RL friend misunderstanding). However, LJ communication might be a bit trickier.
I'm glad you can relate. I wish you lived in Denver. If you did, I would totally let you borrow my DVD.
I find masturbation is very healing, while ironically pushing people farther away.
Re: tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-07 11:51 pm (UTC)I have an idea: Take pictures of your face in (with? having? How come there's always an English major lurking about the internet except at the times when you actually want their input?) its most common expressions, and make them into usericons. I was going to do this with mood icons, but my face doesn't have that many emotions. Or if it does they all look the same.
Have you seen this? and if you haven't, do you think it is a) AWESOME or b) the geekiest thing in all of geekdom? I haven't read it yet because I haven't seen the movie. I might read it tonight anyway.
I don't really care about that when I'm masturbating. Do you? :)
Re: tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-08 12:28 am (UTC)Thanks for the link! I've seen a different one riffing on a NIN video. The problem with MST in this format is you have to be powerful familiar with the film to keep up. However, loved these:
What? You haven't seen the movie? When I get my copy back I'll MAIL it to you, that's how necessary it is. Have you at least seen Firefly?
No, I guess you're right. I don't care about it. >; )
Re: tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-08 01:13 am (UTC)Apparently, there's a bunch of these things floating around. I think it might be cool to watch a show you're familiar with, while reading the text version. You know what, though? I've skimmed the page, and even though I've not seen the movie, I still found a good 90% of the riffs funny. Such is the power of MST3K.
Sadly, I have not. When Firefly came out, I was going through a brief crisis of NOTHING WILL EVER BE AS GOOD AS BUFFY AND BUFFY'S GOING OFF THE AIR, so I missed a lot of shows that season. Then it was over, and I didn't get to see any re-runs because late night sci-fi interferes with my Simpsons reruns. I do plan on watching it eventually.
That emoticon is so confusing. You're winking, but your brow is furrowed as if you are angry. Why don't you like me anymore?
Re: tag, ftw
Date: 2007-06-08 03:37 am (UTC)And also see, I was just like you. I fought and fought against the Firefly. There was no Giles. It starred Evil Evil Caleb, for chrissakes. It was only one season, how good could it be? I rented it from Netflix, watched the whole series, and still wasn't in love. Then I watched Serenity and got a little more into it. Then Tery bought me Serenity for Christmas and I bought the series just to have a complete set.
And somewhere during my second or third viewings I decided that it was one of the best shows I've ever seen (including Buffy).
So how can I help you know the love of Firefly (and Serenity)? A Netflix subscription? Copies of my discs? What?
LOL you funny. My brow isn't furrowed, it's knitted seductively. See, even emoticons don't help!
