Quick addendum to Boston

  • As we sat in traffic at a light, I saw a Cooper Mini that was somewhat reluctant to enter a particularly frenzied rotary. As I watched, the car behind it suddenly slid forward and tapped its bumper. "Holy crap!" I exclaimed, "That car totally just hit that Cooper!" Both drivers moved on though, and my sister replied blandly, "Sometimes you just gotta give 'em a nudge," as if this sort of thing happened all the time. When did honking the horn stop being good enough? Like I said, everyone is in such a big damn hurry.

  • I saw a flight attendant nearly come to blows with a passenger because he wasn't returning his seat back to its upright position quickly enough for her satisfaction. Meanwhile small children and infants are allowed to sit in parents' laps completely unrestrained. Has there ever been any scientific evidence supporting the life-saving properties of moving that extra 12 degrees forward in the event of a plane crash? Or is this just flight crews drunk with what little power they have?

It's like he's right in the room with me

Evidently my new Rickman desktop wallpaper is so lifelike my Schminky turned around, noticed it and meowed at him, mistaking him for an actual person.

Me too, Minky. Me too.

"Who the hell is this guy and why is he in every room?!?"

Tery's only comment on the new look: "It's awfully....Rickmany."

Well, Mythbusters did at some point crash-test these airplane seats and it was marginally safer to put them in the upright position if something were to happen I seem to remember. But then, everyone knows the kids will be the first to fly unrestrained through the cabin due to loose seat belts and lax parents :D

Yeah, I don't know that any amount of seat-uprightedness will save you from babies hurling through the air. That sounds like a far worse fate to me than a fiery plane crash (blank faces, calm as Hindu cows).

Aaah Fight Club. I should watch/read it again. Polishing brass on the Titanic.

I'm currently reading "Haunted" by good old Chuck P., which is 10 times more twisted. I figured out what I like about him, though -- he works interesting little factoids into his writing, like how soap was discovered in FC.

I've read FC (obviously), Survivor and Diary. I loved Survivor but Diary turned me off so much I haven't really read any of his works after that. One reason is because after a while his style became very unsurprising to me, almost bland (with the occasional gem of phrasing or knowledge thrown in there). Another reason is because transgressional fiction is all nice and well, but I do so dislike one trick ponies.

I heard Choke is pretty good though.
