Jumpin' on the "Finding Nemo" bandwagon

I finally got to see "Finding Nemo" last night with Tery. We love all the Pixar creations but don't really want to see them in a theater with 500 screaming kids. This one was not my favorite, but still very good. I really loved Ellen's character; I thought she was a-Dory-ble (oho, haha, I'll bet I'm the first one to make that joke....see, she plays a fish named Dory? get it? Moving on....) The problem I have with watching Pixar movies (and, I suppose, any animation) is the tantalizingly maddening time I have trying to figure out who is voicing the characters. This saps most of my enjoyment out of watching "A Bug's Life" (although I think I finally have them all straight) and worst of all was "Monsters, Inc."......I simply COULD NOT figure out who played Randall and spent the entire movie mentally pulling my hair out (it was, of course, that inexplicably irresistibly sexy Steve Buscemi.....GAH!) Almost enough to make me swear off Pixar flicks forever.
The great: I loved the parody of "The Birds" at the end with the seagulls. The Australian sharks were hilarious. And of course Ellen's Dory was just too precious......even on the DVD menu!
The sucky: What? No outtakes? What's up wit DAT, Pixar??????? I thought that was a Pixar trademark. VERY disapppointed with this.....
I didn't bother watching any of the special features, because of course I will probably be buying it. I just hope Ellen is involved in some of them :)

Date: 2003-11-08 10:53 pm (UTC)On the director commentary Andrew Stanton addresses the fact that there aren't any outtakes, and says that while it may disappoint some fans, everyone at Pixar agreed the joke had run it's course, and just wasn't fresh and clever anymore. And that just isn't the Pixar way. *G*
