my public service announcement

Okay, so you know who gets your vote for president already. Good for you. But what about all the congressional and senatorial candidates? If you're like me, you get dizzy trying to examine all the issues and decide who you like best. Or maybe you don't care and are only voting for president. That's fine too. But remember lots of people have their say over the laws and bills that change our lives. Not surprisingly, I'm voting along gay-friendly lines. This is more helpful for me living in Colorado, where both my senators are dirty Republicans. Would you like paper or paper, ma'am?
I don't expect anyone else to approach the booth placing such high importance on gay issues (except for
oxcidian, and maybe
minikitkatgirl...and definitely
zoisite84*blush*), but if you are mildly interested, I hunted down this page on the HRC website that neatly breaks it down by state and by issue for your voting ease. It's a PDF file you have to download, but if you are really serious about speaking up with your vote, the extra time it takes is a small price to pay. If you don't have the time to read all the accompanying descriptions of the bills, all you have to know is the filled-in circles are good...that means the candidate has historically voted for the bills HRC supports.
It looks like a lot of reading, but you can only vote for candidates in your state, so I came up with just 3 names to keep in mind Nov 2. (Of course, Californians will have a few more. My GOD you people have a lot of politicians.) Simple. Fun! And satisfyingly informative.
(Of course, the real reason for this post is only to show off my fabulous Greg the Bunny icon that
mooselet made, and I love, love love)

Turns out all my activism is for naught anyway...the people whose names I picked out aren't even up for re-election this year. >:( But yeah, it's a barrel of laughs living in a Republican state. Especially when I realized that two of the most hateful discrimination bills were co-authored by CO politicians. Wheeeeeee!

I noticed the subtle addition. >:D< It's no big; my LJ name is usually at the end of people's friends' lists, and by then they're like, "whatever, task completed".
Man, Colorado - no WONDER Trey Parker and Matt Stone had so much to work with in making "South Park".
